Anna Hasper is an IELTS expert (and a former IELTS examiner). She believes that success in task 2 of writing is directly tied to three Ps.
P1 is position. Your position (opinion) must be clearly stated in the introduction paragraph. You should write, for example, “I strongly believe that… because…” or “I support the second view because…” or “The advantages overweigh the disadvantages because…”.
P2 is parts. You must cover all parts (implicitly mentioned in the topic). For instance, if you are asked to write about the reasons of the dominance of online socializing over face-to-face communication, both ways (online and face-to-face) must be argued in the body paragraphs.
P3 is paragraphing. Each paragraph in the body part must be about a single main idea NOT two, and it must be easy for the examiner to recognize the main idea. For example, in one paragraph, you should not discuss the cause of a problem and its solution. You should discuss them separately!
